Property DescriptionThis hostel is a turn of the century New England farmhouse that was totally renovated in 1995 and is just a few steps away from the White Mountains National Forest. Over 750,000 acres provides a natural playground for climbers, skiers, cyclists and hikers alike. Recreational activities abound all year-round with mountain biking in the summer, cross country and downhill skiing in the winter, watching for moose and viewing kaleidoscopic foliage in the fall. It is an outdoor-person's paradise. The area also attracts bargain hunters with its tax free shopping and large variety of outlet stores and antique shops. The hostel has five dorm rooms, with six bunks in each room; and four private rooms that can accommodate up to 5 people. The double beds all have linens. The bunk beds have fitted sheets, and the hostel provides blankets, pillows & sheets, or you can bring your own flat sheets but there are no sleeping bags allowed for health reasons. You will need to bring your own towels and slippers as guests are asked to leave their shoes at the entrance in true Alpine tradition. Bathrooms are located in the hall. There is one private bathroom that is wheelchair accessible, a large men's room and a large women's room. None of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. We have a full modern self-catering kitchen for guests use. We have two refrigerators, two stoves/ovens a microwave, and all the dishes and kitchen supplies you'll need. We have a few barbeques out in the summer, too. There is a living room and dining room with comfortable furniture, and a cozy library. We also have wirelss Internet access for those with laptops . In the summer you can eat outside at the picnic tables or sit in one of the rocking chairs upstairs on the balcony, watching the sunset over the Moat Mountains. ADDRESSHI - White Mountains 36 Washington Street Conway, USA DIRECTIONSBicycles: The hostel is on the Portland, Maine to Portland Oregon (and vice-versa) trail. All coast to coast cyclists get a free water bottle, sticker and laundry, in exchange for the promise of a postcard from somewhere along their ride. Buses: Concord Trailways buses leave Logan Airport and South Station in Boston, and arrive in Conway, NH, via Concord and Manchester. Schedules vary during the year, so plan ahead. From the Conway bus stop, make a right onto Main St. and walk to the first traffic light. Make a left onto Washington Street and we are the second big white house on the left. Ten minute walk. Planes: The nearest airports are Portland, Maine 60 miles/97 km; Manchester, New Hampshire 95 miles/152 km; and Boston, Massachusetts 140 miles/232 km. Please be aware that there is no bus or train service from Portland. Automobiles: Driving from the South - Take route 95 North to 16 North (near Portsmouth NH). Take 16 North all the way into the Village of Conway. At the first traffic light, Washington St., make a left - we are the second house on the left. OR from route 93 North, take exit 23 (route 104 East) to 25 North to 16 North (see directions above once you are on 16 North). Driving from the North - From 91 South get onto 93 south. Take 93 South to route 302 East. Continue on 302 right through North Conway, and when 302 splits to the left, continue straight instead, staying on route 16. You will pass an Army/Navy Store on your left - at the next traffic light, make a right, then immediately, another right onto Washington St. and we are the second house on the left. Driving from the east - Take route 302/113 West through Fryeburg, Maine and into New Hampshire. 302 will make a sharp 90 degree right - do not turn - continue straight onto route 113 to the second traffic light. Make a right onto Washington St. we are the second house on the left. Driving from the west - Take rout 112 (Kancamaugus Highway) East to the end. Make a left onto Route 16 north. At the first traffic light, make a left onto Washington St. - we are the second house on the left. Driving in circles - Then call 603-447-1001 and we will help you get here! |
