Property DescriptionThe Bar Harbor Hostel is located on Mount Desert Island 1-mile from Acadia National Park. We are in down town Bar Harbor, a 10 minute walk to the ocean, a quick taxi ride from the CAT ferry and a few blocks from the Greyhound/Vermont bus drop off. (Please note: the buses stop running Labor Day.) We are fortunate to be located in an area where opportunities abound for hiking, biking, canoeing, ocean kayaking, sailing, and whale-watching, among other outdoor pursuits. We enjoy being near the forest, mountains, lakes and the ocean. Acadia National Park is easily accessed on the free Island Explorer shuttles which run from June 23rd to October 9th (2006 schedule) and bike rentals are available in town. The newly renovated Bar Harbor Youth Hostel has 28 beds including a private room for four. We've also added 3 8x8 wooden tent platforms. Midnight curfew. No smoking, alcohol or pets. Lock-out hours: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We are available for groups. |

Directions
ADDRESSBar Harbor Hostel 321 Main Street Maine, USA DIRECTIONSBy Bus: From the Greyhound (Vermont Transit) stop walk south on Main Street 2-blocks. Bar Harbor Hostel is on the right. Driving directions (6 hours) from Boston, Massachusetts: Drive North on Interstate Route 93, then exit onto Interstate Route 95 North through Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and onto the Maine Turnpike (Interstate Route 95) to Augusta, the capital of Maine. (Take coins, as Interstate Route 95 has stops for tolls). Take the Augusta exit off of Route 95 going east, (following the signs for Bar Harbor) going through two traffic circles in Augusta, each, half-way-around, until you find a right-hand-turn at a traffic signal near a corner McDonalds for routes 9 North & 3 East. Follow Route 3 East for 2-and-one-half hours -- Route 1 North will join Route 3 East (Route 3 takes a left after passing under the overpass for Route 1). Route 1 will then leave via a left, going towards Canada at Ellsworth, Maine. At Ellsworth, Maine, continue straight on Route 3 East for one-half hour. You will pass the Acadia National Park entrance on the right (continue straight) until you reach the stop-sign at the intersection with Route 233. Follow Route 3 as Route 3 takes a left here, and then, a quarter-of-a-mile later, follow as Route 3 takes a right going south onto Main Street in downtown Bar Harbor. Follow Main Street (Route 3) slowly for one-quarter mile until you pass a gas-station, recycling center, & laundromat on the right. The hostel is a white house adjacent to this on the corner of Main Street and Edgewood Street. If you pass the ball-field on your right, you have gone too far. Alternatively, you can ignore the exit for Augusta off of Interstate Route 95, and go north to the Bangor, Maine, Interstate Route 395 East exit. From Route 395, take the Route 1A East exit, and follow to Ellsworth, Maine, where you drive straight to take Routes 1 North & 3 East, then follow Route 3 East to the hostel as above. |
