About Hotel el Sueno

Hotel El Sueno is a family owned and operated lodge in the centre of Santa Elena, a small village next to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.

A favorite for budget travellers and backpackers, the lodging is hosted by a family originally from the Monteverde area.

The eating/kitchen and reception areas are surrounded by the rooms, all with their outside private entrances.

Three new rooms have been recently built at the back of the property. Breakfast is served daily between 6 and 8 a.m. and is very reasonably priced.

Lunch and dinner are also available by request at good prices, and a homemade lunch will be made to go upon request, if you're spending the day in one of the nearby parks. Transportation service is also available to the parks as well as Arenal Volcano.
The friendly owner, Rafa Trejos and his family, are helpful hosts, and offer horseback tours from their nearby farm

Direction

How To Get There
Bus from Fortuna (8 a.m.,one hour later than whatyou find in LP) toTilaran. The price is ¢450. In Tilaran thereleaves a bus at 12.30 toSta Elena (same busstation), price is ¢ 425.The whole journey takesabout one day. The roadto Tilaran follows theborder of the lake formost of the time. BetweenTilaran and Sta Elena thebus passes through littlevillages. The road alongthe lake is in badcondition and not tarredfor most of the stretch.Between Tilaran and StaElena it only get worse. This must be one of themost terrible roads I didin Costa Rica by bus.
It's also possible to gofrom Monteverde to Arenal(and vice versa) in 3hours. It's a 1.5 hoursby 4x4, then 30 minutesby boat on the lakeArenal, and finally 30minutes by 4x4 to LaFortuna. It costs 25 $,and the views on the likeare really nice.
