Property DescriptionLancaster's Backpacker Hotel Lancaster's is the only property catering to backpackers and budget minded travelers in downtown McCarthy. The hotel features clean basic accommodation (comfortable bedding in private rooms) combined with shared bathrooms. We feature easy access to all the eateries, flight services, shuttle buses and touring companies in the area as well as internet services, pay laundry, touring advice & information and secure storage for those heading into backcountry destinations. McCarthy is in the centre of the largest National Park in America, The Wrangell St. Elias NP. This park is bigger than Switzerland. The Mountain scenery rivals the Himalayans or Swiss Alps - there is a substantially higher difference between the lowest and highest elevation, and there are simply more peaks here in 'America's Mountain Kingdom'. There are also more glaciers here than anywhere outside Greenland and Antarctica As guests of the hotel we will be happy to arrange many of your excursions around McCarthy and in Wrangell St. Elias National Park. We can arrange transport to and from your McCarthy point of arrival and departure to make the trek to this remote area as painless as possible. From Glennallen you drive the Edgerton Highway about 45 miles to Chitina. From Chitina, the McCarthy road is a 60 mile maintained gravel road. You can not drive all the way into McCarthy, the road ends at a parking lot 1 mile from town, on the other side of the Kennicott River. The walk into town is easy, and there are shuttles running every hour from 8am to 6pm. Alternative ways to get to McCarthy: Direct flights between Chitina and McCarthy 3 times a day. For any of these transportation options call +1 907 554 4402 for reservations. From Anchorage or Fairbanks, there is daily bus service to Glennallen. From Glennallen, take the Backcountry Connection Shuttle Van between Glennallen and McCarthy, Daily. |
