We knew we'd be arriving late at night, so we e-mailed in advance to make sure someone would be there to check us in when we arrived. They assured us they would, but when we arrived nobody was there. If it wasn't for another guest being awake and in the lobby at the time, we wouldn't have been able to get in. We then had to find our room number on the list of check-ins for the day, and then find our key and show ourselves up to our room (after leaving a note for the absent staff telling them we'd pay in the morning). Then we got woken up an hour later by the staff, just to be told that it was fine for us to pay the next morning. Then nobody was there there next morning either, so we eventually only paid the following evening. Other than that, it was quite a pleasant stay, although the place is so close to the subway that you can hear the trains going by all night.

the bedrooms very clean and great. the bathrooms were just DISGUSTING!! clean them more often!! the neighborhood was awful esp. at night!! It was very dangerous to walk around in east harlem and even a guy followed us to the hostel!!! the next day we took a cab!!! but the staff was definitely the friendliest I've ever met!! :)

Overall it's fine but if you're a female alone either except getting taxis back at night or stay somewhere else. (Cost of taxi back may equal cost of staying somewhere Downtown)

Spent 7 nights. If you want to use the accomodation for overnight only and spend the days in the city it is the perfect place on Manhattan. Breakfast usually bread, butter, marmelade, juice, coffee, tea, toastmaker - all on serve yourself basis - good way to start the day. The neighborhood seemed safe, short walk from subway to guest house. Stayed there in 2 bed room with TV and airconditioning, simply equipped, good enough for our needs. Showers / bathrooms in the hall separate for male/female. Would come here again. The price for private room for 2 is unbeatable. Free internet.

we didn't expect more or less. unfortunaltey it is impossible to get into contact with the front desk over the phone or e-mail. they simply do not write back and tell you a wrong phone number. altogether our stay was pretty well

this was a fantastic welcoming place to stay...there is really no communal space to hang out in in the evenings if you're up for a quiet night, or none that is pleasant to chill out'...the breakfast is a little uninspiring, but i would most certainly stay here again, the staff are really wonderful...

Let me give you a breathless rundown of the facts: the air-conditioning did a fine job, the bed (matress) was good (not too hard nor soft), cleanliness (incl. toilets and showers) OK, breakfast also OK, and sometimes there were freshly made pancakes , which elevated this experience. The staff is friendly, and you are only two blocks away from the subway, and even when we came back at 12 in the night we didn't feel frightened by the surroundings (but things might look differently if you are female and on your own, but it's not necessarily dangerous). To sum it up: you won't get the same amount of bang for your buck anywhere else on Manhattan!

We've been travelling around the U.S for the last 2months and this has been the best hostel we have stayed in, including some of the motels and hotels. We would rocomend this to others as is is really good value for money, very clean, the staff are really nice. The sub way is just around the corner and it takes about 5-10minsmax to get to times square which is really good.

Hi, this hostel is ok, safe and really cheap, just 60 $ a day for a double-room including breakfast, tv & conditioning air in the room. The location is not so central but u are so near the underground (maybe a little too much 'coz u can sometime hear it) and just at 20 mins from the center by underground. I spent a good time there. See u everybody!!

I really appreciated the breakfast, and on the whole, it is much cleaner than the other hostels I went to. I will come back.
