Miguel (the owner) was so nice and helpful. He drove us into town so we could buy some necessities when our luggage was lost, and drove us in again when no taxis were available to take us to dinner. He also showed us how to get to the waterfall and booked a couple of other excursions for us. It was all really simple to book and the things we did were great! The Lodge itself is lovely with little pathways and flowers all around. We even saw a Toucan on our first day there! Breakfast is really tasty, and the rooms are comfortable and clean. Be careful if you bring snacks into your room as tiny ants will find them! And if you like foosball, see if Miguel and his son will play you in a game - they're great! There are plenty of areas to hang out but when we were there things were pretty quiet, hence the average fun rating. This was great for us as the excursions and stuff were so early in the morning that we were always ready for bed before too late. Overall we really liked it and would def stay again.

We had a great stay at Cerro Chato Lodge. The lodge is a mile or so outside of La Fortuna (down a very rocky road) and is essentially located in the forest itself. There is a spectacular waterfall within short hiking distance (45 minutes) and is well worth visiting. The food (breakfast, dinner) served was excellent and the rooms private, clean and comfortable. Miguel, your host, helped us arrange all of our tours including an Arenal Volcano hike, lava viewing, a visit to the hot springs and even set up our Jeep-Boat-Jeep transportation to Monteverde. There are plenty of other tours available as well. Door to door transportation was provided for everything. Miguel was very prompt and efficient before and during our stay. I would highly recommend staying at Cerro Chato for all the above reasons as well as the overall friendly staff and atmosphere.

The owner was very friendly and willing to help recommend activities. The water fall was very fun, as are the hot springs. The volcano hike is ok. But Cerro Chatto lodge is very nice. about a 15 minute walk from the town, easy in a taxi. I strongly recommend it.

We highly recommend staying here. It was one of the most relaxing spots for us throughout the entire country. Our room was clean, the recommendations were fantastic, the breakfast was yummy, and everything about Cerro Chato was superb for the price. We were grateful to have a car, yet we did walk into La Fortuna a few times for exercise. We would return here in a heartbeat!

We definitely recommend this place! Miguel is always offering to accomodate your needs and is very informative. You can book everything here, it´s so easy. The food is good, homemade, and cheap. The best part was how cute the place was...it looked homey. The only negatives were the lack of hot water (like a lot of places in costa rica) and it´s somewhat far proximity to town (which didn´t actually seem to be a problem since miguel will drive you there for a few dollars). I would stay here again.

Cerro Chato was perfecto. Miguel and his family were so accommodating and friendly. The rooms were simple, and the setting was amazing with lush fauna and an amazing view of Arenal. Breakfast was delicious as well. We will DEFINITELY come back here!

The Cherro Chato Lodge is fantastic! The owner is so helpful with information on what to do and see in the area. He sounds a bit like he's selling you stuff, but really he's just super helpful. The place is fun and colorful and it's nice to not be right in the town of La Fortuna. While you're there, make sure you visit the La Fortuna Waterfall! It's very much worth the $6 USD... the most gorgous waterfall I could ever imagine.

Cerro Chato was a fantastic place to stay. Rooms were very clean and spacious, breakfast was great, the whole property is beautiful with a great view of the volcano, a very authentic "eco-lodge" as compared to many others that claim to be... The owner Miguel was great, giving wonderful info on the area and what to do, he is very involved in the community and a great ambassador of Costa Rica. Very highly recommended.

This hostel is VERY hard to find if you are driving on your own, but it is worth it. The owners Miguel and Carmen are great and set up all of the activities for us for the time we were there. This is a great affordable place for La Fortuna with the best Costa Rican breakfast that we had!
