Property DescriptionBuilt in 1898, Hotel Champ-de-Mars is located near the gates of the Old Port of Montreal, approximately nine miles from Trudeau-Dorval International Airport. The Hotel Champ-de-Mars is at the eastern main entrance of the Old Port of Montreal, near the Saint Lawrence River, on 756 Berri Street. The street's name is said to come from Simon Despres, known as Le Berry, a wealthy landowner who was killed by Iroquois in 1663. The northern facade of the hotel is bordered by Saint Louis Street, formerly the main road of the little suburb Saint Louis, which had developed just outside the fortifications during the 1740's. The southern facade of the hotel is bordered by the Parc de Ville-de-la-Fleche. The hotel is also near Place Jacques-Cartier, one of the liveliest spots in Montreal. In the early 19th century the hotel served as a rooming house and tavern favored by sailors before change of ownership and subsequent renovation. Hotel amenities include the restaurant and bar (Blues Cafe), complimentary full American breakfast, and access to the Energie Cardio Fitness Club, aerobics, massage treatments, and tanning areas. The hotel also offers concierge service, dry cleaning, and complimentary High-speed Wireless Internet access. All rooms feature TVs, phones, air-conditioning, and private bathrooms. Highways 10, 13, 15, 20 and 40 (via 15 south) lead to downtown Montreal via highway 720 (Autoroute Ville-Marie). On 720 East, exit rue Berri. From the highway exit, turn right on Berri. We are at 756, Berri. Simply park at the 15-minute "débarcadère" hotel unloading parking zone by turning right on Champ-de-Mars street (corner Berri) in order to come in, check in and take your bags to your room. Then you may proceed to the next block (pass the stop sign) where you can park indoors at an indoor parking lot named Le Chaussegros-de-Lery. You pay when you exit. The rate is $16 CAD for 24 hours. Across the street, there is also an exterior parking lot and the fee there is $7 CAD per day. |
